Sinopsi

El 2029, la societat està completament governada per la tecnologia. Un dels grans avenços consisteix en uns implants cerebrals que converteixen els éssers humans en autèntiques computadores vivents; una fusió entre la consciència i els programes que dona pas al que es coneix com a esperit, un nou estadi evolutiu. Una d'aquestes humanes amb 'esperit' és la Motoko Kusanagi, una agent secreta especialitzada en activitats antiterroristes que té com a missió caçar un perillós pirata informàtic.
